What types of sculptures do you create?
Our sculptures explore a wide range of themes, from nature-inspired wildlife, birds, marine life, and botanical forms to robotic, futuristic, and abstract creations. Each piece is hand-crafted in stainless steel and designed to bring character and presence to any space, indoors or out.
Are your sculptures suitable for both indoor and outdoor spaces?
Yes! Our sculptures are designed to withstand indoor and outdoor environments. We primarily use high-quality stainless steel (316 and 304) that is resistant to corrosion, ensuring your piece remains stunning for years.
What materials do you use?
I primarily use reclaimed stainless steel, with over 95% of the metal sourced from post-industrial materials, chosen for its strength, durability, beautiful finish, and low environmental impact. I also create scrap art using upcycled tools and components, and occasionally incorporate copper and other non-ferrous metals for added contrast and character. Bases may feature reclaimed stone or responsibly sourced hardwoods.
What is the difference between 316 and 304 stainless steel, and why do you use them?
304 stainless steel is excellent for general use and provides strong corrosion resistance. 316 stainless steel contains molybdenum, making it even more resistant to harsh outdoor conditions like saltwater environments. We select the steel type based on the sculpture’s location and desired longevity.
Can I commission a custom sculpture for my home or garden?
Absolutely! We love creating unique, commissioned pieces tailored to your space, style, and vision.
How do I start the process for a commissioned piece?
Simply contact us with your ideas, inspiration, or images. We’ll discuss the design, size, materials, and timeline to bring your vision to life.
How long does it take to complete a commissioned sculpture?
Commission timelines vary depending on size and complexity. Most projects take between 8-16 weeks from concept approval to delivery. If you have a specific deadline, please feel free to contact Ian directly by email, and he will do his utmost to ensure your sculpture arrives on time.
Can you create sculptures in any size?
Yes, we can create sculptures ranging from small indoor pieces to large-scale outdoor installations. We’ll work closely with your space, vision, and budget to determine the ideal scale and proportions for your sculpture.
Are your sculptures made entirely by hand?
Yes, each sculpture is hand-crafted with meticulous attention to detail, from the initial concept and design through to cutting, shaping, welding, and finishing. This hands-on process ensures that every piece is truly unique, high-quality, and carries the character of the maker.
Can you replicate a design or photo I provide?
Ian can create a sculpture inspired by your design or photo and work within the technical boundaries of the metalworking process. While I aim to stay true to your vision, each hand-crafted piece will naturally have unique characteristics, making it a truly one-of-a-kind work of art.
How unique is each sculpture?
Each sculpture is created as an individual artwork. Even when working within similar themes, the organic nature of handcrafting stainless steel results in unique forms, surface details, and finishes that cannot be replicated exactly.
How do I care for my stainless steel sculpture?
Regular dusting and occasional wiping with a soft cloth and mild soapy water is usually enough. For outdoor sculptures, rinsing off debris and checking for surface build-up helps maintain shine and finish. For more detailed guidance, please visit my Aftercare Page.
How is my sculpture delivered?
Wild Edge arrange secure, insured shipping tailored to your sculpture’s size. For larger pieces, I offer a professional white-glove delivery and installation service within the UK to ensure it is positioned perfectly and safely.
Do you create tribute sculptures?
Yes, this is a sensitive and specialised part of my work, and one I approach with great care and respect. I can thoughtfully incorporate a loved one’s cherished tools, instruments, or personal memorabilia into a unique sculptural tribute, creating a meaningful and lasting piece that honours their life, story, and memory. Each tribute is created in close consultation with you, ensuring the final sculpture feels deeply personal and truly reflective of the person being remembered.
Do you offer painted or coloured sculptures?
Yes! While all of Ian’s sculptures are crafted from stainless steel, some of the smaller pieces feature carefully applied paint for artistic effect — for example, a robin’s vibrant breast or a kingfisher’s striking wings. These painted sculptures are best suited for indoor display, as exposure to the elements over time can affect the vibrancy of the colors. To keep them looking their best, we recommend enjoying these pieces inside your home, where their fine details and vivid finishes can be fully appreciated.
